Adding the Rost Lab RPM repository to yum

Execute the following commands:

sudo cat > /etc/yum.repos.d/rostlab.repo <<END
[rostlab]
name=Rost Lab Packages for CentOS and Enterprise Linux
baseurl=http://rostlab.org/centos/\$releasever/os/\$basearch/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0
END

Adding Third Party Repositories

The Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (or EPEL)

EPEL is a Fedora Special Interest Group that creates, maintains, and manages a high quality set of additional packages for Enterprise Linux, including, but not limited to, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS and Scientific Linux (SL). [EPEL home page]

If there's in no /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo on your system you will have to add it.

 sudo vi /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo

And insert this content

#baseurl=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/5/$basearch
mirrorlist=http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=epel-5&arch=$basearch

gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL

RPMforge

RPMforge is one of the participating repositories in the rpmrepo project. [RPMForge Home]

If there's in no /etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo on your system you will have to add it.

 sudo vi /etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo

And insert this content

Also make sure to import the rpmforge gpg key [More]

 sudo rpm --import http://apt.sw.be/RPM-GPG-KEY.dag.txt 

Download repository metadata

sudo yum makecache

Getting package information

yum info <package_e.g._snapfun>

Installing a package

yum install <package_e.g._snapfun>

Upgrade an installed package

yum makecache && yum upgrade <package_e.g._snapfun>
